Robots that vacuum and clean provide the convenience of cleaning dry debris and wet mess in one session, without having to switch between devices. They can also help save storage space compared to having two separate units, especially in smaller living spaces.

A good combination bot should have impressive navigation and obstacles avoidance. Look for models that have docks that allow them to automatically empty their bins, fill their water tanks and machine-wash the mopping pads.

1. Eufy S1 Pro

It has a lot to offer for its relatively modest price, and it's among the easiest robots we've tested to set up. Unpacking is easy and the quick-start manual gets you running in no time. It comes with the complete dust bag, water tank, and a hard floor solution.

The S1 Pro is a powerful little machine that is able to clean up a storm and vacuums well too. The mops spin at high speeds and exert 2.2 pounds (1kg) of force, which makes short work of pet hair, dirt and dried sticky spills. The vacuum cleaner comes with four power settings, a range of brushes and attachments as well as an intuitive app which lets you choose the type of cleaning you'd like to do for each room.

You could, for instance ask the robot to clean the kitchen and the living room thoroughly, but leave the bedroom to itself. The S1 Pro's front colision sensors and its smart navigation technology are excellent too as the best robot vacuum that mops is capable of detecting tiny obstacles that other models have difficulty overcoming. The only drawback is that the robot tends to crash into walls and objects at a high speed. However, a quick look at the history of cleaning in the app will reveal exactly what the robot accomplished, where it's going, and which obstacles it has encountered or avoided.

The docking station has a handy LCD screen that displays the need for maintenance like emptying the debris and cleaning the water tank that is dirty. It's also able to mix detergent automatically into the water tank, using a 600ml bottle of the eufy's solution.

Both the S1 Pro mop and vacuum have a long run time. The mop can operate for 184 minutes in Quiet Mode, and the vacuum can run for 136 minutes in normal mode, prior to having to recharge or returning to the base. And you can see the entire cleaning information in the app, which is well laid out and easy to understand, though we would like to be able to distinguish between a vacuum only or a vacuum/mop clean when examining a cleaned area in the history of cleaning.

2. Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

The Roborock S8 Pro Ultra is the latest version of the company's flagship robot vacuum and mop. This year's model has a double agitator built into its mopping pad. This increases the cleaning capabilities of carpets with this model. The S8 Pro Ultra has an improved suction power that enables it to pick up smaller hairs and other particles other robotic cleaners could miss.

The Roborock model, just like the other two I tested is equipped with infrared and 3D obstacle avoidance technology to help it overcome obstacles like furniture, walls and other obstacles. The S8 Pro Ultra goes one step further by incorporating a dual-camera that can identify objects, determining if they are walls or other surfaces. It can then automatically change its path and clean them without missing a beat.

It's the most expensive model I've tested and it comes with the most features. Its sleek, angular style is eye-catching and it only has three physical buttons which include the power button which can also restart cleaning; a mop-only button that doubles as a child lock and a home button to send the robot back to its dock. The hinged lid can be opened to reveal a 350ml dustbin as well as a 200ml tank of water. The water tank will empty itself and the bin is auto-refilling.

The only issue I encountered in this model was the VibraRise mop pads mount isn't movable. You can change the mopping cloth if required, but it's a challenge to remove the mount for manual washing. I've found any plush carpet that the robot crosses will be in contact with the rough Velcro like fastener system on the mount, which can cause abrasions.

The S8 Pro Ultra has a number of smart features that include support for Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Siri. You can set up and manage these using the Roborock app which is also the home of its maps and advanced mopping settings. The app lets you schedule cleanings and monitor the battery's lifespan. You'll have to go through a series of steps to activate voice control on this model. It's a shame considering how efficient it is otherwise.

3. Dreame X40

The app is simple and user-friendly and the X40's intelligent features are a breeze to install. Users can program the X40 to clean at certain times. It can also be adjusted to adjust suction power, switch modes, look at floor plans and maps and manage mopping settings. The X40 will also monitor its progress and notify you when it's finished.

The X40 is easy to keep clean and has numerous features which make it a good robot vacuum choice for busy families. The docking station automatically empty the dustbin into a large 3.2 L bin, cleans the mop pads, and refills them with clean water and cleaning solution. It can also detect whether the mop pad is at its capacity to the max and alert you to the situation prior to it bursting.

4. L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra robot is one of the most expensive models available. However, it has several characteristics that make it stand out. Smart DuoScrub is a brand new feature of its mop heads, makes use of two mop heads that are high-speed to scrub floors more thoroughly. It also has a suction force of 7,000Pa. This is significantly higher than the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra or Ecovacs Deebot T20 Omni, and it can clean pet hair and smaller dirt particles - and also pick up spills and wet spots.

The mop mops are cleaned and dried in the base station every time they are used. This is a great feature because it prevents mould and unpleasant odours that can build up in storage. It also makes the mop system more efficient. This is a feature we haven't yet seen on other robot vacuums and mop models and it could be a great way of keeping your home hygienic for longer.

There are plenty of options, including the ability to schedule cleaning times and adjust preferences. The app allows you to set these preferences or you can use the buttons on the device itself. The app is easy to use and offers many options for customizing the cleaning routine. Additionally, there are many functions that other robots don't include, such as the Clean Genius mode that automatically increases suction power when it detects dust particles, instead of using an individual setting.

The L20 Ultra has a stylish design that has a white-and-metallic look that looks sophisticated and classy. It's heavier than the other two-in-1 robots on this list - at around 4kg - but it's not obscenely heavy either, and it feels sturdy and well-built. Mopping is well designed, and the double rotating mop is a great choice for hard floors or in corners. The MopExtend feature allows them to reach even 2mm below the baseboards.
