They do have some flaws, however, that prevent them from being our top option. One of the Q5's shortcomings is that its navigation system does not feature AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's also prone to getting stuck on socks and shoes, and it couldn't navigate through rooms with a lot of people efficiently during our tests. It doesn't also have a camera that can see around corners.

However, it's a good choice, especially if you want to save money on an iRobot Roomba and you have a bare-floored home or office. Additionally, it's quiet and you can use it while you're at work or at school. The only thing it doesn't have that you don't get in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming of floors with no floor. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It relies on disposable wet wipes, which don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with self-emptying docks, however. If you want to, you can switch the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of just a few seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a sleek, compact package. Its nimble navigation and intelligent cleaning maps make it quick to clean and efficient in tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robotic hoover for carpets, but it isn't as effective as some of its competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.

It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after it vacuums it, something we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

This robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba unit than the boxy models of the competition. It is one of our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest model, with features that are cutting-edge like Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can autonomously wash mop pads).

It's the only robotic vacuum/mop that scored an exemplary 10/10 in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors, which include cameras, a structured lighting system and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to draw out floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its top competitors. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and was sometimes confused with obstructions or power cords.

This allows you to inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. If you have a lot of furniture, a stair mode is also a good option. Additionally the recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a cleaner with more intelligence than you'd expect from its price tag. It has a great vacuuming performance and picked up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating motion which is cleaner than the majority of the mop cleaners with robots that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient with a full-featured app and a self-emptying base that is washable.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate the mapping process, which gathers information on your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app comes with a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It's good at vacuuming but is more prone to get caught on low thresholds and is more noisy than the other top robot vacuums we've examined. It also has a less user-friendly app and a small base station that doesn't double as an emptying bin.
