1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling the i3 EVO, are identical robots that differ only in that the i3+ has self-emptying capabilities. That makes the i3+ a great option for those looking for an automated, hands-free cleaning robot price experience, but aren't afraid of having to empty their dust bin manually when it fills up.

Both robots are proficient at removing surface dirt on floors and carpets and can navigate around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software creates smart maps of your home that help the i3+ EVO navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ does not feature obstacle avoidance features like the i7+ or any other top-rated robots we test. It could be stuck on power cords or socks and have trouble moving between surfaces, such as rug and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas where the i3+ EVO will best automatic vacuum prior to when you use it, and include clearing out any toys or clutter it may come across. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clean so they do not become blocked by dirt. When the i3+ EVO’s internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station and empties the dirt into the station's external dustbin. Then it continues cleaning where it began. Battery life is about an hour and a half of continuous usage. It takes 3 hours to fully charge.

2. Roomba by iRobot

The iRobot Roomba i7+ is the most powerful model in the iRobot flagship line, and it is equipped with the most recent features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. However, the most significant feature is its auto-emptying bin. This removes the need for regular maintenance.

The Roomba I7+ is able to better map rooms with Imprint Smart Mapping. It also works with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can direct your robot using the app or voice.

In our testing, the i7+ was faster and more maneuverable than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it took large pieces of pet hair from all surface kinds including carpeting. Its biggest advantage over the eufy, though it self-empties its dust bin, which eliminates a major source of maintenance and cuts down on the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also amazed by the i7+'s integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant AI services which we used to instruct the robot to begin, stop or pause its cleaning routines, move itself around the room and sweep a specific space. Connecting the i7+ to these services was easy and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to give voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home App also offers options to manage i7+ settings and monitoring the performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world of vacuums with cords that are like minivans and buses, this small Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in most households however, it can also fit nicely on the coffee table or a bookshelf that you can spin around like the magic wand.

The V10 is powered by a seven-cell, energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces continuous, non-fading power for 60 minutes. The advanced whole-machine filter system captures allergens, and then releases fresh air into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive bristles made of nylon that are stiff into carpets to trap large dust and crumbs. It has three different suction modes that can be adjusted to suit the task. It quickly switches from automatic floor cleaning machine vac to handheld vacuum and back again.

The model also comes with an accessory dock that can charge to 100% in about 3.5 hours and offers an easy access to two attachments and a Wand clip. This is a big improvement over earlier Dysons, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The main issue with the V10 is its limited run time. As CR's tests show, its advertising claims of up to 60 minutes are a bit misleading. This is a typical not an extraordinary time to run a battery-powered cordless vac. That's still enough run time to clean most of an average-sized house but not long enough to cover every area (though a second run-through usually does the trick). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more mobile than previous Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is noticeable superior for carpet floors with low pile.

4. iRobot Roomba 694

One of the most well-known robot vacuums The 694 is a basic model that's an excellent choice for people who don't want to invest too much money on a robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris in our testing and often went over the same area multiple times for an efficient clean. The flat front of the unit allows to get into corners and along the edges of walls and walls, which is a nice feature.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and help you navigate your home. It's not equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, such as our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. This means that it can sometimes get stuck on things like phone cords and furniture that isn't in good condition, and frequently will run out of battery before returning to its base.

In our tests in our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ performed well on hard floors. It removed 86% of dog hair (on carpet). It did not do well in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also more expensive than the other models we tried which could be a deal-breaker for some shoppers.
