The Q5 Pro and its sibling, the more expensive Q7 Max Series, are among the most powerful robot vacuums we've tested. They are equipped with motors that are top of the class and can handle up to 5,500 Pascals. As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model) they utilize intelligent mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid home-based obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also feature a feature called Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it detects dirt on the carpet.

The Q5 and Q7 Max Series both scored very well in our tests on floors that were bare, and they are particularly adept in removing dog hair. However, they do have several flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. One of the Q5's shortcomings is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's thus susceptible to become stuck on socks and shoes and couldn't navigate rooms with lots of people well in our tests. It doesn't also have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good value, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also quiet and works while you are at work or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, as it relies on disposable wet wipes that don't stay on very well and can't take on dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying dock, though. And, if you need to, you can swap the mopping pad for a dry one in seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive vacuuming and mopping capabilities into a compact, sleek package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin, powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot vacuum for carpets, though it's not as effective as some rivals in deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors to keep away from obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time to ensure more efficient cleaning. You can modify the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones using the app that is well-designed. Its battery life is average compared to similar models.

If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to remove and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm is also great for getting under low-lying furniture and along baseboards. It doesn't perform as well on the washboard as our other Editors' Choice Picks, the Ecovacs Ozmo N8Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.

In tests during testing, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop in the market to clean an entire house, finishing with only 66 percent of its battery left. It also did a good job cleaning a variety of floors and rooms with mixed flooring types, including certain area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top-of-the-line and it swiftly eluded fake dog socks, turds and cables.

It's a little more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but it has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It can even clean the floor after vacuuming it, something we haven't seen in other robot vacuum/mop combinations.

3. Roomba X40 from iRobot

With an elegant, circular design that looks more like a regular Roomba than the competitors' compact models, this robot vacuums with mop vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive designs in our evaluations. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It has advanced features like enhanced dirt detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).

It's also the sole robot vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our evaluations. This is thanks to a combination high-tech sensors including a structured light system, camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot vacuums best in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station, and it has an the industry's highest suction of 12,000Pa and self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is easy to use, offering a simple mobile app interface as well as integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit as well as Google Assistant. The only drawback is that the X40 is still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in mornings before work or at night when you are trying to sleep.

It's also quite expensive, but it's not as expensive as the Ecovacs Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing to live with a little more noise and a little more cost, this is a very capable two-in-one that should please almost everyone.

4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features to help you forget about your chores. Similar to Ecovacs range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes the care of vacuuming and mopping, Robot hoover with a multifunction dock that automatically emptys the vacuum's dust bin, fills its water tank, and washes and dries its mop pads.

The smart robot makes use of LIDAR and structured lighting to create floor plans and detect obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards but this wasn't completely foolproof in our tests, and could be confused with obstructions or power cords.

Its vacuum cleaner has an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than enough to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas in the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it is worth choosing a model that has the option of cleaning zones or spots. This lets you inform the robot of which area of your home needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice command. A stair mode can be useful if you own a lot furniture. Additionally, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is great for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you'd imagine from its price. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris we found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops with one pad, which uses a reciprocating motion, which cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and an auto-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping that collects data on your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules, set up the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, including seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

Its shape is more rectangular than most other robot vacuums, meaning it can reach corners and underneath furniture better. It has an impressive 8,000 Pascal suction as well as clever combs for removing pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans the area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a more sleek and more affordable alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive, Dolce & Gabbana-esque design and its twin cameras appear like cute eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to be caught in low thresholds. It is also louder than other top Robot vacuum Cleaner best vacuums that we have tested. It also has a less user-friendly app and a tiny base station that doesn't double as a bin for emptying.
