As with other premium iRobot models (including the top-rated model), they use smart mapping technology to create detailed floor plans and avoid common obstacles like cords and furniture legs. The robots also have the feature of Carpet Boost which boosts its power when it senses dirt on the carpet.

Both the Q5 and Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective at cleaning pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. For instance, the Q5's navigation system doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology which means it's susceptible to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.

It's still a good deal, especially if your home or office has a lot of unfinished floors and you want to save some money. It's also very quiet and you can use it when you're at work or going to school. It's not equipped with the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming that is offered in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. It's also less effective when it comes to mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't adhere well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 has a self-emptying cradle, however. And, if you need to change the mopping pad for dry ones in a matter of minutes.

2. IRobot Roomba

The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact, sleek vacuum cleaner that also has the ability to sweep floors. Its intelligent cleaning maps and nimble navigation make it easy to clean and effective in dealing with larger particles such as pet hair. It also comes with strong suction and self-emptying bin. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets, but it falls behind some competitors in terms of deep cleaning.

This high-performance vacuum and mop uses sensors that help it avoid obstacles and pet waste. It also learns the layout of your home over time and provide better cleaning. You can modify its cleaning schedule and set up zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.

When the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted area, you can tell it to pull back and extend its mop. This can help avoid cross contamination. Its flex arm is great to get under furniture with low levels and along baseboards. In the course of testing, X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to clean an entire home with just 66 percent of its battery remaining. It also did an excellent job of cleaning a mix of floors and rooms with different flooring types, including some area rug. Its obstacle detection was excellent, and it avoided fake dog turds, socks, shoes and bundles cables.

It's more expensive than the iRobot Combo v9+ and iRobot Roomba j9+, however, it comes with superior suction, a dustbin on board that automatically fills up its base, and it supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It even cleans the floor after vacuuming this feature, which hasn't been seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combos.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

With a sleek circular design that looks more like a normal Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most appealing looking in our reviews. iRobot’s latest flagship model is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection as well as future compatibility (another company’s robot hoover and mop that can wash mop pads autonomously).

It's the only robotic mop or vacuum that has 100% in our evaluations due to a mix of high-tech sensors that include a camera, structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that can fully self-refill and empty its base station and it boasts its own self-cleaning mop pads.

As with other iRobot models as well, the X40 is user-friendly, offering an intuitive mobile app interface, and integration with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google Assistant. The only real drawback is that it's a noisy unit which could be an issue if you use it in the morning prior to work or at night as you try to sleep.

It's also somewhat expensive, though it's not as expensive as Ecovacs X2 Omni or the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, both of which are equally capable and more attractive. This is a dual-purpose vacuum that's extremely powerful however it will cost you more and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum cleaner vacuum and mop, with a lot of advanced features that will let you get rid of your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning device that is similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically emptys the bin of the vacuum and refills the water tank, as well as washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its top competitors. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time however, it wasn't 100% foolproof during our tests and was sometimes confused by power cords or other obstructions.

Its vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to complete the task. If you own a larger home, you should consider choosing a model that has spot or zone cleaning mode. Finally the recharge and resume function that allows your robot vacuum to pick up right where it left off is great for busy families.

iRobot RX3

The RX3 is more intelligent than its price suggests. It does a stellar job vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mops using a single pad and a reciprocating motion that cleans better that most of the robot mop cleaners that we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a full-featured app and a self emptying base that can be washed.

The iRobot app is designed to help you navigate the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. You can use it to make cleaning schedules, set up a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms for better performance. The app offers a variety of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.

It is also able to reach corners and under furniture more easily because its shape is more rectangular. It also has a powerful suction of 8,000 Pascal suction and combs that are intelligent for pet hair. You can also organize a spot-cleaner which will thoroughly clean a specific area.

The Miele Scout RX3 Home Vision HD is a sleeker and cheaper alternative to the iRobot Roomba. It has a more attractive design, similar to Dolce & Gabbana. The twin cameras are designed to resemble cute little eyes. It is excellent at vacuuming, but it's more likely to get caught in low thresholds. It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have test. It also has an app that's not as intuitive and has a tiny base station that can't double as a bin for emptying.
