Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very excellent scores in our floor tests that test for bare floors, and they're particularly adept in removing pet hair. However, they have a few flaws that keep them from being our top choice. One of them is that the Q5's navigation doesn't feature AI-powered obstacle avoidance technology and is therefore prone to getting hung up on shoes and socks and can't navigate tightly packed rooms very well in our tests. It also doesn't have cameras that let it see the corners of a room.

It's still a great deal for those whose home or office has a lot of unfinished flooring and you're looking to save some money. It's also extremely quiet and can be used while you're at work or school. The only thing it lacks that you won't find in the pricier iRobot Roomba X30 is edge-to-edge vacuuming on bare floors. It's also less effective in mopping. It is dependent on disposable wet wipes that don't stick well and isn't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 is self-emptying cradle that can be emptied by itself. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be replaced with an awe-inspiring one in a matter of seconds.

2. IRobot Roomba X30

The iRobot Roomba X30 packs impressive mopping and vacuuming into an elegant, compact package. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient at tackling larger particles like pet hair. It also comes with a powerful suction and a self-emptying bin. This high-performing mop and vacuum combo utilizes advanced sensors to dodge obstacles and pet waste, and it will learn your home's layout over time to provide more efficient cleaning. It also supports voice commands via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it vacuums. This is something we haven't seen before on other robot vacuum/mop combination.

3. IRobot Roomba X40

The robot automatic vacuum and mop robot and mop combination features a sleek, circular look that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models of the rivals. It's among our most attractive robot vacuums. The newest model from iRobot happens to be its smartest, with advanced features including Enhanced Dirt Detection Technology as well as future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).

It's also the only robotic vacuum or mop that scored an absolute 10 out of 10 in our tests. This is due to a combination high-tech sensors, including a structured light system, a camera and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted a suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mops.

The X40 as with other iRobot products, is easy to operate. It comes with an easy mobile app interface that integrates with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only drawback is that the X40 still a noisy unit. This can be a problem in the mornings prior to work or in the evening when you are trying to fall asleep.

It's also a bit costly however, not as much as the Ecovacs MaxV Ultra or the Roborock S8 Omni, which are both equally powerful and more attractive. This is a two-in-one vacuum that's very capable however, it's more expensive and produce more noise.

iRobot L20 Ultra

The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with many advanced features that will let you forget about your chores. The L20 Ultra is a hands-free cleaning machine, similar to Ecovacs the top of the line X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra. It features a multi-functional dock that can automatically empty the vacuum's bin and fills up the water tank, and washes and dries the mop pads.

The smart robot uses a combination of LIDAR and structured light to map out floor plans and spot obstacles, navigating more intelligently than its top rivals. It also has a front mounted camera that can detect hazards in real-time but this wasn't 100% reliable in our tests and was often confused with obstructions or power cords.

The vacuum has a suction maximum of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to finish the job. It also comes with an option called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", Best Robot Hoover that regulates the power of the vacuum and adjusts the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the house based on how dirty the areas tend to be.

If you own a larger home, it's worth selecting a robot that comes with the option of cleaning zones or spots. This allows you to instruct the robot on which part of your home needs to be cleaned using the app or voice command. If you have lots of furniture, a stairway mode is also useful. Finally a recharge and resume feature that allows your robot vacuum to continue where it left off is ideal for busy families.

5. iRobot Roomba RX3

The RX3 is a smarter cleaner than you would imagine from its price. It's a pro at vacuuming, removing 55% of the debris that was found in our tests (it was second only to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses using one pad and a reciprocating movement that is more efficient than most mop cleaners for robots that vacuum and mop that we've examined. It's also self-sufficient, with a full-featured application and a self-emptying, washable base.

The iRobot application is designed to help you navigate an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas that you have marked on the map. It can be used to make cleaning schedules, plan the perfect spot for cleaning or prioritise your dirtiest rooms to ensure better performance.
